Alexa Benavides: Why I Rebuild
I think we all go into college thinking that we are going to be the next neurosurgeon that is going to revolutionize our life and those around us. At least that is what I thought. Until I stumbled across the Intercultural Studies program at my university in which I studied Anthropology and Peace-building. And boy did it change my life! As my studies continued I had the opportunity to visit Israel and Jordan. Our program was intense in learning about the rich history and culture that each of these places had to offer. Yet, there was some work to be done. I ran into many groups that were advocating, donating, and becoming a voice for those who could not share their own. The need to become one has never been such an important motto in my life.
My desire is to be a part of a team that envisions empowerment through forging new skill sets that will enable people to help themselves and their communities. I am committed to be that voice and help others build their dreams by working with Rebuild for Peace. Teamwork makes the dream work.
